Policy For Accepting Formal Membership Invitations

The policy for accepting formal membership invitations, signed by all potential new members on February 15th,2009 (Preference Night) is as follows:

By signing this Acceptance Agreement I understand and agree to the following terms:

1. I am willing to accept an invitation to membership from any of the sororities that I list on this agreement.

2. I may limit my choices to one or list up to two sororities on campus in which I am willing to accept membership.

3. Once I sign this Agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference calendar year rule. This rule states that if I receive an invitation to membership from any of the chapters I have listed and I choose not to accept it, or accept it and depledge prior to initiation, I am ineligible to be pledged to any other Panhellenic sorority on this campus until Spring 2010.

4. If I do not receive an invitation to membership from any of the chapters I have listed, I am still eligible for Continuous Open Recruitment. [Chapters that are below Panhellenic "total" (85 members) after the Panhellenic Spring Recruitment are eligible to recruit women during the remainder of the semester until they reach "total". This is called Continuous Open Recruitment or COR.]

5. I am not obligated to list any sororities. If I withdraw, I am still eligible for Spring COR or Fall Recruitment.

*If you went to two events tonight you are strongly encouraged to list both choices.

*Do not list any chapter from which you are unwilling to accept an invitation to join.

Facts of Formal Recruitment at Chico State

Formal recruitment is the main process the National Panhellenic Sororities at California State University, Chico use to recruit new members. 2009 Spring Formal Recruitment will be going on February 12th- February 16th.

The weekend consists of events that will allow potential new members to learn about each sorority at Chico State as well as what it means to join and be apart of a sorority. During each event, women participating in recruitment will have the opportunity to ask chapter members about sorority activities, new member programs, scholarship, community service, and sorority life in general.

Throughout the weekend, if any woman has questions, she may ask her recruitment counselors, Recruitment Advisor or the VP of Recruitment. Each potential new member will be assigned Recruitment Counselors who will be available during the entire process to answer questions.

***To participate in Formal Recruitment, a woman must be regularly marticulated and enrolled for credit in at least twelve (12) units at CSU CHICO (this does not include Extended Studies or Open University). A student must be in good standing (a CUMULATIVE COLLEGE GPA of a 2.5 or higher). A student also must be at least a second semester freshman to participate.
