Recruitment

  • Facts of Formal Recruitment at Chico State

Formal recruitment is the main process the National Panhellenic Sororities at California State University, Chico use to recruit new members. Formal recruitment occurs during the Spring semester and is a week-long process.

To participate in Formal Recruitment, a woman must be regularly matriculated and enrolled for credit in at least twelve (12) units at CSU CHICO (this does not include Extended Studies or Open University). A student must be in good standing and have a CUMULATIVE COLLEGE GPA of a 2.5 or higher. A student also must be at least a second semester freshman to participate.

    Panhellenic Association Recruitment Process

The general sororities conduct a formal recruitment annually in February. Registration is required along with a registration fee. Panhellenic recruitment is a mutual selection process. During the first round, potential new members visit all 5 of the Panhellenic sororities. After each round, the potential new members rank the chapters in which they are most interested and the chapters submit lists of women whom they'd like to invite back to the next round.

    What is a Recruitment Guide?
At the beginning of the recruitment process, you will be assigned a Recruitment Guide. The Recruitment Guide is a member of one of the five sororities on campus, but for the duration of recruitment she has promised not to reveal her sorority affiliation in order to give you unbiased counsel as well as to reduce the pressure on you to join her chapter. We realize that it is tempting to know what your Recruitment Guide's affiliation is, but please do not try to find this information out. If you know her affiliation, do not tell others. Her affiliation will be revealed at the end of recruitment. Your Recruitment Guide has sworn to keep all information you tell her confidential and you should feel free to ask her any questions you have. She is available to you at all times and is a valuable resource, but most essentially she is a listener.
